Monkey City

The town of Lopburi is rumored to have a larger population of monkeys than of people. Most of the monkeys seemed to congregate around the main temple of the city but all over the town you can see the creatures hanging on power lines and lurking outside of restaurants. When we went to the temple we were offered a guide for protection from the monkeys. The guide turned out to be a young Thai boy with a big stick who was working for tips. He was pretty good though, he saved us a couple of times when the monkeys tried to steal our bags or jump at our cameras.

Here's a picture of him making sure we see this especially fat monkey.

  1. Such rude monkeys! The baboons I saw in Uganda seemed well-behaved, but sabotaged our trucks at night!(stealing mirrors and lug nuts)
Some humans are more closely in tune with their ancestors than others.
